While in the city of Chennai pursuing his  Masters Degree in Social Work, Kumar experienced the love of Jesus for the first time.After completing his studies and working with a couple of NGO’s, he felt God calling him to serve him full time.He was ordained to be a pastor in 1989 at Apostolic Christian Assembly(Purasaiwalkam,Chennai) and was extensively involved in church planting, community transformation and media in addition to pastoral care. He has since been used by God to set up over 150 churches all around India

In the year 2011 God spoke to him to plant and pastor a new church in Anna Nagar (Chennai) and has since focused on the new church called Heavenly City Church.
